The
Gemini Project was a proof-of concept for an XBox title. The
ironWorks studio of the Microsoft Game Studios hired me initially
for my expertise with content creation for the Unreal Warfare
game engine. When they decided instead to build their own engine
I was put in charge of designing the level editor and art tools
for this new engine.
Gemini
was a Science Fiction FPS featuring the Hugo and Nebula Award
winner Greg Bear as a story consultant. This game included time
travel, simultaneous "cyberspace" and "real world" action,
and a 65,000 mile high space elevator that can take you from
the Earth's surface into orbit.
The
two main characters are the same heroine: one from the "present" (the
year 2100) and one from 50 years later. This created unusual
opportunities for "intrapersonal conflict".
Sadly,
after the Studio Manager left to join the competition (EA) ironWorks
was dissolved, Gemini was briefly put under the FASA studio,
and then cancelled because it didn't fit into the portfolio.
Quite a few talented people were involved with this project: Credits
